Description: Vintage Georg Jensen inspired Sterling Silver Porringer #1.....By William G. deMatteo Platter itself 8" Across.....Weight 4.34 Troy Ounces (Pardon the Overhead Light Reflection in the pics) William G. deMatteo emigrated to America from Italy when quite young. At age 14 he became an apprentice at Reed & Bartons in NY city. He was a journeyman and foreman in 5 years, the youngest to hold that position. In 1921, age 26, he opened his own shop. As the business reputation grew, his clientele included special orders for Tiffany and Cartier. During World War II, he was commissioned to make pieces in the style of Georg Jensen, to be sold in the Georg Jensen USA stores at the time. William had an affinity for the Jensen style, and while not exact copies of Jensen designs, close enough that most consumers at the time couldn't tell the difference. The Quality of the design and workmanship is equal to the Danish products....and they are rarer, more varied, and slightly idiosyncratic. Shipped w/Signature Confirmation
