Description: Welcome to Milkweed Antiques. This character is Ed Wynn as you can see is printed on the front of his body. He was on a TV show titled "Ed Wynn Fire Chief" that was sponsored by Texaco Gasoline. It was a musical variety show that had only 12 episodes. This show ran from 1932-1935. Ed is made from wood except for the bill of his hat that is lightweight plastic and the elastic string that holds all of the parts together. He is holding his hatchet. His face was stenciled and was not completely done. The top of his hat states "Fire Chief". On the bottom of his foot it states "Made in U.S.A.". He was made by Jaymar. He is 4-1/4" tall x approximately 3" wide x approximately 1-3/8" deep. He is from the 1930s. The rack is not included. It is for display only. Ed was used through the years. His elastic string is stretched and worn. I am including the hook that allows Ed to hang more evenly. There are a couple of paint nicks and use marks. There is a factory nick in the wood on the front that was prepaint. This can be seen in picture #2. As I mentioned above, his face stencil is a bit light in spots. This was done during manufacture.
