Description: Free eBay listing template designed by dewiso.com Morton Yellow Ware Pottery Pitcher______________ This handsome pitcher was made by Morton Pottery of Morton, Illinois, in the 1930's. The green and brown glaze on this pottery is called Woodland Glaze. It was sponged and spattered and daubed with a brush onto the yellow stoneware and then a clear overglaze was applied. Both the interior and the base are glazed as well as the exterior. The local clay that fired to this yellow color was exhausted by 1940; after that the clay was imported from South Carolina and Indiana, and that clay fired snow white.This barrel pitcher stands 7 1/2 inches tall and is 5 inches across the base. Measuring from the outermost edge of the handle to the end of the spout, it is 9 inches across. It weighs a hefty 3 1/2 pounds.There is an elongated, pointed spout, a C-shaped handle and the body is ribbed. Its condition is excellent, with no cracks or crazing and a few tiny flakes off the foot rim on the bottom, unseen when displayed. It's unmarked, which is typical for utility ware.This spongeware pitcher looks great wherever you place it in your home. Just perfect for a bouquet of daisies....
