Description: Viola pedata is a perennial in the Violaceae family. A native to eastern and central United States. It grows naturally in sandy areas and is suitable for an Alpine rock garden. A clumping growth that gets between 5-10 inches high. The leaves are 2 inches long narrow, and pointy. Considered the most beautiful flower in the world. They range in color from a light purple to a blue. It is in bloom from mid-spring until early summer. The bees, butterflies, and birds love it. It prefers to grow in full sun to part shade. Keep out of rich soils and drainage must be excellent as it is susceptible to crown rot. A dry, rocky, or sandy soil is required. Zones 4-9 Germination Mix seeds and soil and moisten the mix slightly in a ziplock bag. Write the name of the seed on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 60 days. Seed should be sown into well-drained, sandy compost and covered to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in a filtered light spot and kept moist. Seeds germinate very slowly regardless of when they are sown. Some seeds may take more than a year to germinate.
