Inspired by art patron Lorenzo de Medici, known as Il Magnifico, the pen—as its name suggests—is crafted from Egyptian marble, often used in Renaissance and Baroque works of art. It is trimmed with aged bronze and brass, which lends a mood of antiquity. Il Magnifico Egyptian Marble Limited Edition The pen’s body is crafted from amber-colored marble, with delicate streaks that range from yellow-orange hues to sepia. These variations in color are the result of deposits of limestone in the rock. Its octagonal shape is inspired by the Florence Baptistery, also known as the Baptistery of Saint John. This historically significant structure stands in both the Piazza del Duomo and the Piazza San Giovanni, across from Florence Cathedral and the Campanile di Giotto. The octagon was a common shape for baptisteries (the part of the church where baptisms are held) during early Christian times and for centuries thereafter. In biblical numerology, the number eight symbolizes new beginnings and is used throughout the bible to signify regeneration. Lilies, symbolic of the city of Florence, are engraved on the pen’s cap, where decorative rows of the flower artfully embellish the bronze surface.
