Description: I purchased this from the estate of the original owner. I found this with many other other braille writing machines and electronic devices that were manufactured for the blind. I believe the original owner American Foundation for the Blind. I shall be listing machines and material from this collection shortly so if you are so inclined, please check my upcoming listings. This listing is for a : VINTAGE 1968 IBM MODEL D BRAILLE ELECTRIC TYPEWRITER . This model was a real milestone for IBM as it was the first powered Braille writing machine available for individual use. I'm not sure how many of these were made but they are quite scarce indeed and rarely show up on eBay... QUITE A MUSEUM PIECE . including 2 OPERATING INSTRUCTION MANUALS , one in Braille the other not. and a brochure in braille. Also an IBM sales brochure for this model. a very rare model of IBM , a real museum piece.... It powers up but the keyboard seems to be locked. I'm offering this in "as found" condition as I can't attest to its functioning i.e, "for parts" "not working" with no returns. I'll leave any restoration or repairs to the next owner. The cosmetic condition is ok. there are some spots of wear and some oxidization noticeable. see photos . I believe the body is the same as a model 12 so it should be easy enough to swap body parts to make this cosmetically near perfect.
