Vtg Advertising Sherwin-Williams Flaxoap Pure Vegetable Soap Metal Can 1950's

Description: 1 Can New and Unused, unopened 1 pound tin of Sherwin-Williams brand Flaxoap. A Pure Vegetable Oil Soap that contains no Animal Fat. These tins are from Old Stock but are unopened. Usefulness of contents is unknown. I opened a can and the contents is a paste like content with a bit of grittiness (flaxseed?) that apparently helps to break apart tough stains. There was a slight amount of surface film discoloration on the top, but I stirred it up and the overall consistency of the contents was similar throughout the layers within the can. I didn't notice any unpleasant smell. According to the directions, the soap is usually mixed with an amount of water to create a cleaning solution. My attempt to date this item: The can is Pre-UPC (Universal Product Bar Code) era packaging which became widespread in the 1980's. They do not contain an expiration or "use by" date. They are marked with a hand written price of 49¢ on the lids. The top of the can lid also has two three digit codes imprinted in two lines: 253 and 393. The label on the can is ink printed on metal, it's not an applied paper label, The manufacturer's address is as follows: Cleveland 1, Ohio - Made in USA. The use of a single digit as the Postal Code (Pre- Zip Code usage) began in some cities in the 1940's and continued until the Zip Code system came into widespread use in 1963. Therefore, due to these clues, I'm led to conclude as a BEST GUESS as to the date of these cans would fall somewhere around 1955-1965. It could be earlier, but certainly not later than 65. The age of the store I obtained these from goes back to the 1940's. I found some S-W ads with the same color scheme (Yellow with Green upper and lower bars and GREEN Title Font) dated in the 1950's.
