Description: Offered for sale is a Vintage Sculpture of ’The Hand of Rodin Holding a Torso’. Auguste Rodin was a French sculptor generally considered the founder of modern sculpture. Rodin possessed a unique ability to model a complex, turbulent, and deeply pocketed surface in clay. He is known for such sculptures as The Thinker, Monument to Balzac, The Kiss, The Burghers of Calais, and The Gates of Hell. Hand of Rodin Holding Torso:Auguste Rodin, French, 1840 - 1917. Cast by Paul Cruet, French, 1880 - 1966 Shortly before Rodin’s death in November 1917, his assistant Paul Cruet made a life cast of the artist’s right hand and placed into it a female torso, in miniature, by Rodin, one of the many plaster ragments in Rodin’s Paris studio. This composite work combines a cast made from life with an original work of art. This is a Copyrighted Reproduction of the original done through Museum Pieces, Inc. (MPI).It is marked MPI on the base of the hand, and has the sticker on the bottom of the base. Measures 13 1/8" inches in height, 5 1/2” depth, and 4” width. Weighs 4 1/2 lbs. Looks much better in-person - white backdrop darkens the color / image. In Excellent Condition. No cracks, chips or breaks to the sculpture. The base has a small edge chipin the front (shown in close-up photo above). It almost appears that it may havebeen factory issued and sold as such, because the black paint and gloss is consistentto the rest of the base. It does not detract from the overall appeal or take away from the sculpture - mentioned for accuracy.
