Description: This vintage Wedgwood Art Pottery Lidded Trinket Box is a beautiful addition to any art pottery or Wedgwood collection. The piece was made in England in 1960. The company name, "60" and "Made in England" are impressed into the bottom. In the iconic light Wedgwood blue with a "biscuit" matte finish, the box is kidney shaped and measures 2" high, 3 1/8" wide and 2 7/8" from front to back. It has a fitted lid. The piece is beautifully decorated in incredible detail with white "sprigs" (applied designs) of flowers around the lid edge and scenes of cherubs and muses around the bottom. There are cornice type decorations separating the scenes on the bottom. The top has Cupid with a mask portraying a mystifying oracle and prophesying to a kneeling man before him as a woman encourages the man to listen. The intricate neoclassical designs were created for Wedgwood by artist John Flaxman who was famous for his artwork of ancient Roman and Greek mythology and culture. This piece is perfect for collectors of decorative pottery pieces and those interested in periods, styles and culture. The box is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs.
