As a result, the band’s fifth album “Ratrace” perfectly balances thrashing madness with a more contemporary, midtempo approach. “I was really incredulous about how he managed to save that album,” band leader Zhema comments on Patrick W. Engel’s restored and remastered version on the original tapes. “The vocals, guitars and bass – everything is finally more defined!” And after frequent bad luck with both recording studios and labels, the Brazilian extreme metal forerunners found a capable partner in High Roller Records to reissue “Ratrace”. The album, which saw a glorious return of guitarist Soto Jr. († 2001) from the line-up of the group’s seminal debut “Bloody Vengeance” (1986), would be their last release for 14 years but an impressive temporary farewell no less. With tracks like the two-minute barrage ‘Welcome to the Army’ or the similarly frantic ‘White Violence’ set against more chunky stuff such as ‘Just a Matter of Time’, “Ratrace” is a forgotten thrash gem to be (re-)discovered! Vulcano (Death Metal)Vulcano is a pioneering Brazilian death/thrash metal band formed in 1980 in Santos, São Paulo. They are regarded as one of the first extreme metal bands in Brazil, heavily influencing the nascent South American metal scene. Their raw, aggressive sound and lo-fi production style encapsulated the ferocity of early extreme metal and set a precedent for later bands in the region. Combining elements of thrash, death, and black metal, Vulcano's work is often noted for its chaotic riffs, relentless speed, and dark, occult-themed lyrics. Their landmark album, Bloody Vengeance (1986), remains a cult classic and is considered one of the most important records in the development of South American metal. Over the years, Vulcano has maintained their uncompromising style, earning respect for their authenticity and dedication to extreme metal. 50 Similar ArtistsHere’s a list of bands that share a similar style or influence with Vulcano, particularly within the death, black, and thrash metal genres: SarcófagoSepultura (early years)MutilatorHolocaustoMystifierSextrashChakalKorzusAttomicaOverdoseNifelheimSadistik ExekutionBlasphemyBeheritPossessedDeath (early demos)VenomHellhammerCeltic FrostSodom (early)Kreator (early)Destruction (early)BathorySarcasm (Brazil)InsulterNecrofagoGrave DesecratorImpuritySabbat (Japan)GoatpenisBestial WarlustAbominatorSlaughter LordInfernal MajestyExorcistNunslaughterMortuary DrapeVulvectomyBulldozerWarfareTormentor (Hungary)NecrovoreSlaughter (Canada)MassacraAsphyx (early)ExumerPentagram (Chile)Mortem (Peru)PerversorNocturnal GravesThese bands either share Vulcano's raw aesthetic or were part of the same wave of extreme metal development in the 1980s and beyond. ____ All records ship both domestically (USPS Media Mail) and Internationally (USPS), and will be packed/protected like a pro with experience.
