Description: London City, Its History-Streets-Traffic-Buildings-People Author: W. J. Loftie Title: London City, Its History-Streets-Traffic-Buildings-People Publication: London: The Leadenhall Press, 1891 Edition: First Description: W. Luker Jr. 377. William John Loftie (1839 - 1911) was a British clergyman and writer, on the history of London, travel, art and architecture. This book is a comprehensive survey of London in the late Victorian period and is profusely illustrated with original drawings by W. Luker Jr. and engraved by Ch. Guilaume at Cie. It has 60 full page plates, and in-text illustrations populate virtually every page. Very good in dark green cloth with gilt titles and designs on the spine and front cover. Edges and corners are scuffed and the spine cloth is faded. The spine ends are frayed a bit. There is the beginning of cracking of the endpapers, but the binding is still sound, albeit a bit loose. This is a very heavy volume, and the weight of such books of this vintage are always a challenge to the bindings. However, this volume has held up relatively well. The pages are slightly age toned, and there is very slight foxing, but limited to the endpapers, not on the plates.. Very good.
