Description: WALTER TEVIS' COMPLETE ŒUVRE - - SIX PAPERBACK NOVELS, SOME UNCOMMON Walter Tevis (1928–1984) was a novelist's novelist and a teacher of creative writing who created some of the most enduring characters and plots of the second half of the 20th century. The majority of his novels struck a chord with enough readers that they were made into movies or series. The Hustler (1959) was made into a movie starring Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason. This is the Dell paperback movie tie-in version of the novel, 2nd printing (1962). Acceptable condition. Staple holes in both the front and back cover. Somewhat fragile, but perfectly readable. No marks. The Man Who Fell to Earth (1963) was made into a movie starring David Bowie and Candy Clark. This is the Bloomsbury Film Classics edition, published in paperback for Sight & Sound magazine in 2000. Acceptable (nearly Good) condition. Spine is cocked and creased. No marks. Tevis was an alcoholic for nearly two decades, and during this time did not complete any novels. He taught at Ohio University in Athens, OH, from 1965–1978, at which point he was sober and began to publish again. Mockingbird (1980), a science-fiction story, is presented here in a 1st trade paperback printing of the Del Rey Impact / Ballantine Books edition. Acceptable (if not Good) condition. Spine is uncreased. No marks. The Steps of the Sun (1983) is also a science-fiction story, and is presented here in a first printing of the 1990 Collier Books mass-market paperback edition. Good condition (almost Very Good). Clearly unread. No marks. The Queen's Gambit (also 1983) is now his best-known novel, thanks to the Netflix series of the same name. This is the 2nd printing of the Vintage Contemporaries edition from 2003. Acceptable condition. Spine is creased. No marks. The Color of Money (1984) was published shortly before Tevis' death and made into a Martin Scorcese film starring Paul Newman. Newman won the Best Actor Oscar award for his reprisal of the role of Fast Eddie Felson from The Hustler. Acceptable condition. Spine is cocked and creased. No marks.
