Contains 90% Silver This historic 90% silver half dollar bears the last classic commemorative design. The U.S. Mint would not strike another commemorative for 28 years. This final issue honors the lives and achievements of two prominent black Americans. It also helped preserve the republic, as sale of the coins raised funds to fight the spread of communism. The obverse shows side-by-side portraits of George Washington Carver and Booker T. Washington. Two rows of inscriptions surround them.
