Description: Scarce collection of "Wavelength" New Orleans Music magazine; 45 issues (1980-1985). Monthly magazine begins with Volume 1, No. 1 (Nov. 1980) through No. 27 (Jan. 1983). NO#'s 28, 29, and 30 (Feb., March and April of 1983). Then resumes with No. 31 (May of 1983) through No. 39 (Jan. 1984). NO# 40 (Feb. of 1984). Then No. 41 (March of 1984) through No. 48 (Oct. 1984). Then a single 1985 issue (No. 55) May of 1985. Magazines are in very good condition. These are the scarce early years; seldom offered as a collection. Library worthy. Following taken from the University of New Orleans' Earl K. Long Library site ("Scholar Works at UNO"): "Wavelength New Orleans Music Magazine was founded by Connie Zeanah Atkinson and Patrick Berry in November 1980. Wavelength originally had been a record review insert published by Berry’s iconic Leisure Landing record store. The magazine was dedicated to telling the life stories of the many unheralded New Orleans musicians who had influenced American popular music. It covered the range of New Orleans music -- jazz and gospel, rock and classical, but with an emphasis on rhythm and blues, highlighting the work of some of the city’s most talented writers, artists, and photographers including Jeff Hannusch, Bunny Matthews, Skip Bolen, Rick Olivier, Kalamu ya Salaam, Gene Scaramuzzo, Rick Coleman, Paula Burch, Al Kennedy and dozens of others. Never solvent, but always promoting the story of New Orleans music, Wavelength ran for 11 years, closing in 1991."
