This is a beautiful and historic commemorative made of fine porcelain by one of the world's finest manufacturers. The measurements of each plate from the Wedgwood company can be confusing. While the box declares the plate as 10 1/2", and a sticker on the box labels it as 8", the plate actually measures 9" across. This plate is in perfect condition and shows Rhode Islanders engaged in Sinking the Gaspee. The British had been patrolling the harbor hunting for smugglers as early as 1772 and in June of that year the colonists took action. They boarded, captured and burned the armed British schooner. The ensuing investigation conducted by the British fell apart when the Rhode Islanders lost their memory.
