Description: This handmade cloth doll is dressed like a young African girl ready for a special occasion. Her hair is freshly braided and her two-piece outfit is made of a colorful cotton print, the kind of print fabric found in the bustling outdoor markets. She is 18 inches tall and with her arms spread she is 14 inches wide. Her head, body and limbs are firmly stuffed and her facial features are hand embroidered. Her arms are jointed at the shoulder and her legs are jointed at the hip so she can sit up on her own. She has lived all her life in a smoke-free environment. I purchased this doll in Togo in the late 1990's from a passing street vendor. In my more than 20 years living in the region, this was the only time that I saw a locally made doll of this quality.
