Description: Free Media Mail! For faster delivery, upgrade to Priority. Door County, Wisconsin New! 19-Page Booklet Early days in Door County, WI, are recalled in this meaty little 19-page 8 1/2" x 11" spiral-bound booklet, printed single-sided on 60 # opaque paper. The front cover is a parchtex card stock, protected with a vinyl sheet. The information comes from a rare 1881 book, entitled History of Northern Wisconsin. We've enlarged the area on a map from the original book, and included it along with two other maps of historic interest. Communities currently listed for this area by the National Association of Counties include: Baileys Harbor, Brussels, Clay Banks, Egg Harbor, Ellison Bay, Ephraim, Fish Creek, Forestville, Gardner, Gibraltar, Jacksonport, Liberty Grove, Maplewood, Nasewaupee, Sevastopol, Sister Bay, Sturgeon Bay (County Seat), Union, Washington, Washington Island. (Some towns may not be mentioned in the booklet.) Among the many subjects included are: Location and Natural Resources; Lumbering Interests, Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal (the source book, written shortly before completion of the canal, gives quite a bit of detail on it and predicts its importance to the area); Porte des Morts "the Door of Death"; Increase Claflin, William Marshall, P. Rowley, Peter S. Sherwood, Neil McMullen, and other early settlers; County organization and early officials; Sturgeon Bay (originally called Otumba), Churches, Newspapers; the small towns of Nasawaupee, Forestville, Bay View, Sevastopol, Egg Harbor, etc.; and other interesting bits of history and trivia. Attention Genealogists: In addition to the many names scattered throughout the booklet, there are biographies of many county residents of the late 1800s. Some of these are brief, but others include family members, affiliations, war records, and business activities, in the course of which they often shed light on area businesses, churches, professions and institutions, and on news events. Those listed are (not in alphabetical order): August Bliesner, A. Bottelsen, Andrew Charlsen, M. Cochems, E.C. Daniels, Jacob Dehos, William Donovan, G.A. Dreutzer, O.E. Dreutzer, C.
