Boldly written and signed in pencil by McKinley, a fine example of the future President's penmanship. While traveling, McKinley hand addresses a telegram dated "?wich | Feb 28, 1893" to his wife (and Ohio First Lady) Ida, "Mrs. Wm McKinley Jr | Chittenden Hotel | Columbus Ohio" to advise her not to wait up for him as his "Train more than two hours late, do not wait up for me, am..." McKinley served as the 39th Governor of Ohio from 1892 - 1896, before being nominated and subsequently elected to the Presidency in 1897. By the time McKinley had reached the Presidency he had shortened his signature quite a bit, from "William" to simply "W. McKinley", eventually even dropping the "Jr." from his autograph.
