Windows 98se Dell Inspiron 4000 - RETRO GAMING LAPTOP

Description: Laptop was just restored with Windows 98SE in November 2024.It's been carefully tested and found to be working great with no apparent issues. ALL Windows 98 secuirty patches, Hotfixes, updates, and some extras have been installed. Genuine Dell battery is good. Since this is being sold for retro Windows gaming tried a lot of classic games on it that came out about the same time this laptop was made. I confirmed a bunch that are playable on this laptop, see the end of the listing text for a partial list. See the demo video (sorry about the poor quality) for better idea how this runs- note the video was taken with laptop running only on battery. A DVD/CD-RW burner drive rom is in the removable bay and is working well- you can also put a 3.5" floppy drive or 2nd battery in this bay. CPU heat sink/fan just cleaned and a tiny bit of thermal compound was added for more efficient cooling. Hard drive is 40GB so used FAT32 to format and did not try to install DOS 6.22 which requires FAT16 - the version of DOS that comes with Windows 98SE can play most DOS games fine. Laptop has just been cleaned. Display is nice and bright with sharp color. All the keys on the keyboard are working. Trackpad and AccuPoint mouse and both sets of mouse buttons work quite well. Fan will come on and shut off automatically when the CPU starts working a little harder. This has an RJ-45 ethernet port but the laptop only has a mini PCI modem card is installed so there is no ethernet. You could install a combo card or even a wireless card as there is an internal wireless antenna in the laptop. For Windows 98se I would just leave it as it is because if you mess around and install more components and drivers it may mess things up. Games tried for testing include NES and SNES emulators, Atari Arcade, and Sega Smash Pack. All appear to be working with good audio and video. (2) The original BIOS battery was bad so improvised one out of a coin battery (3.7 volt) which seemed to work OK most of the time. Then I got another BIOS battery which looked like the original (long, green, 7.2 volt) from a C600. It's a little bit fatter than the original and makes a little bulge in the back cover. I think it's good, not postive so am also including my homemade 3.7 volt battery with plug (3) Some general cosmetic wear to the finish, not bad overall, see higher resolution photos.
