Signed "Branner". -Description: This is the original artwork for the 1-9-1938 Sunday daily comic strip Winnie Winkle's Fashion Forecast by Martin Branner (1888-1970). Winnie Winkle's Fashion Forecast was a Sunday "topper" strip to Winnie Winkle. This fashion topper panel features a cut-out paper WW doll with various outfits/accessories for Winnie to "wear". The WW "Fashion" topper strip began in 1935 and ran at least until the late 1930s. It apparently had various titles relating to fashion or cut-out dolls. This panel features an elegant image of Winnie in her underwear (seems like that would've been somewhat risque for a 1938 comic strip!) and eight different outfits/accessories that she can wear. Beautifully designed and rendered Sunday by Branner, who created the Winnie Winkle character in the 1920s as women entered the workforce in large numbers. The strip (originally titled "Winnie Winkle the Breadwinner") was something of a romantic melodrama, with a good does of with humor, as Winnie navigated her way through her job, romance and family drama. Winnie later became an astute businesswoman, and, if memory serves, she became the owner/president of a successful company. A rare opportunity to acquire this GGA comic strip, as I believe this to be the only Winnie Winkle Fashion Forecast Sunday topper strip available on the market. Condition: -The art is in very good to excellent overall condition. Minor to moderate age/handling wear. Minor corrections to artwork. Editorial directions in margins. Crease to lower left corner (does not affect art). Pencil notes to reverse.
