Description: Ambraw Wabash Council Location: Mount Vernon, IL This patch is made of "composition" material -- a fragile, war-time substitute for wool and cotton. In 1946 (and possibly earlier), Camp Am-Wa-Co (Ambraw Wabash Council) issued a patch in several colors. This color, variously described as dark red or maroon, designated membership in the Order of the Arrow. An extremely difficult Illinois OA Lodge Issue, and the only one I've owned... Reference works like oainsignia dot com list the R1 as the first confirmed issue. Newer research indicates that the 167 YA1.5 with hand-stitched arrow, used in 1942 and/or 1943 is a true issue, rather than a prototype. To me the 167 YA1.5 looks, for all the world, like a 140 A1 with an added hand-stitched arrow. Unfortunately. I'm unable to compare them side-by-side. It's certainly conceivable that the 140 A1 and 167 YA1.5, although issued by different lodges, have a common source and indeed are identical apart from a hand-stitched add-on arrow for the latter. The printed 167 YA1 from ca. 1944 might or might not be an official issue as opposed to a prototype or a patch issued for some other purpose. Will be mailed with tracking and insurance (J. Hupp).
