This is a group of photographs depicting all 21 California missions taken by Lena Scott Harris. Harris was born in Iowa and settled in Los Angeles by 1905. She was an author, painter and photographer known in her day for her paintings and photographs of wildflowers, leading to the publication of her book, California Native Flowers: A Story in Color, in 1936. She also published several other books including Wild Flowers of Kern County, California in 1940 and issued postcards related to wildflowers. Each photo has Harris' stamp as well as a handwritten caption. Each caption details the date the mission was founded as well as the friar who founded it.
