Description: Maker: This exquisite tea service for 4 has the blue backstamp of Lantern China of Nagoya, Japan. Design: It's in a classic Japanese pattern of geishas and pagodas. On the base of each cup is a geisha figure that can be seen when back lit. The technique is called lithopane. From its origins in the 1800s, lithopane became a very popular form in Japanese porcelain from the 1930s until the 1950s or so, often featuring geishas as this set does. The cups are in very thin eggshell porcelain; the other pieces are thicker and heavier. Composition and size: The set consists of:- one creamer, 3 3/4 inches wide between the tip of the spout and the far end of the handle and 3 1/8 inches tall.- one covered sugar bowl, 5 inches wide between the handles and 3 1/8 inches tall without the lid, which adds about an inch.- 4 cups, 2 inches wide at the opening and 2 1/8 inches tall.- 4 saucers, 3 7/8 inches wide and 3/4 inches tall. The set weighs 1 pound 6 ounces. Condition: There are no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, repairs or discoloration. There is light wear to some of the edges. Please check all the photos very carefully – they are an important part of the description.
