The book has been well cared for with no other writing on the pages and no torn pages. Please see pictures for the exact condition. Great Value!! This small book (56 pages) includes a "note" by John Rayner about Bewick (26 pages) and a selection of engravings. Replete with reproductions of Bewick's engravings, with special attention to his quadrupeds, two of which, a lion and an elephant, appear spread across the front and rear endpapers. Thomas Bewick (1753-1828), the son of Northumberland tenant farmer and collier, was largely responsible for the revival in Britain of the delicate are of wood engraving and for its gradual supplanting of copperplate engraving as a means of book illustration.
