Description: Given the other photographs in this set, and the numbering used, this is likely soldiers from the 7th ID, 61st Regiment somewhere on the road between Krakow and Radymno, Poland heading towards Lwow preparing for the siege of the city. In German: 16. IX. 39 Rast auf der Straße ("Resting on the road")Radymno-Krakowice The reference to Krakowice is probably a mistake, I think they are referring to Krakow. The battle of Lwow took place from 12 - 22nd of September and marked the entranceof Russia in to the war. The German soldiers possibly are defending againstreinforcements from central Poland reaching Lwow, which is now modern day Lviv, Ukraine. An extremely rare photograph from the very first days of the war. Measures approximately 4 by 2 3/4 Box J 09292021Weight 0 ounces
