He describes it as the closet he ever got to being shot down. He would eventually fly over 480 hours of combat in the famous P-51 and 25 missions in Vietnam in the F 105. In all those combat missions, he never had an abort and only once was his aircraft hit by ground fire during D-day with a minor bullet hole. He also served as a test pilot on flights as nearly risky as combat flying. On May 17th, 2024, General Anderson passed away in his sleep at age 102. The book is an updated edition with a forward by Chuck Yeager and German Ace Guenter Rall. The hardback book and dust cover are in mint condition and Anderson has signed on the title page. The book is 377 pages and filled with both black and white photographs from his service as well as color photographs of his honors and awards.
