The items I will be selling from this point on are being sold from my estate and from the estates of friends and relatives. This WWI French M1886/93/16 Lebel Rifle Bayonet belonged to a friend of mine who recently passed away. He set aside vintage military items over the years. This blade was found in his bayonet collection . This WWI French M1886/93/16 Lebel Rifle Bayonet is clean overall and is complete with it's scabbard (see photos). The bayonet's cruciform shaped blade retains most all the blued finish as applied when it was shortened to 13.25 inches (see photos). The alloy handle has somewhat toned with age and is attached with a spanner but to the pommel (see photos). Crossguard has some light finish corrosion that will somewhat clean and has a working spring loaded release mechanism (see photos). There are some markings and a serial number to the hooked crossguard (see photos). The bayonet scabbard is solid/clean overall with no dings or dents (see photos). It retains most all of the finish but it is beginning to brown overall and there is some minor corrosion to the tip (see photos). The frog retaining bracket remains solidly in place near the throat and has a serial number to one side (see photos). The serial number doesn't appear to match the one on the crossguard but it is hard to make out (see photos). This WWI French Lebel Rifle bayonet is complete overall and would be excellent for display. It is guaranteed to be an original period piece as described. Great piece for the blade collector that wants a clean very attractive French Lebel M1886/93/16 bayonet.
