Description: This is a nice First World War Cased 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class that is in excellent condition. The cross exhibits high relief and sharp detail to the crown, monogram ‘W’, and 1914 date on the obverse and to the crown, letters, ‘FW’, oak leaves, and 1813 date on the reverse. The silver frame now with an attractive age toned patina. The jumper ring is clearly marked ‘800’. The black leatherette case measures 3 x 4 inches and is with a mother-of-pearl closure button. The interior of the lid is lined with ivory colored satin. The bed upon which the cross rests is of plush ivory colored velvet and fitted for the cross. A piece of folded 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class ribbon is held in place on the underside of the lid by two black elastic bands. There is a small tear in the leather near the closure button. It remains a fine-looking example of the classic German decoration for combat heroism.8547
