Description: STK: #BAYO-6Brought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera WWI WWII US Collins & Co. Legitimus No. 1005 Army Engineers Type 3 (Steel Ferrule) Bolo Machete Knife & Leather Scabbard Manufacturer: Collins & Company, Legitimus Model: No. 1005, Type 3 >--> Condition: Very Good - Very Good Plus Blade Length: 15.25" TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWI (maybe WWII too) US Army Engineering bolo machete knife and leather scabbard. This was made for crews to clear brush and foliage from fields of fire or for cutting through brush, vines, small trees etc.. Overall, this machete bolo knife is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition, considering its age. The three (3x) rivets securely fasten the wood grip panels to the tang. The ferrule is securely fastened and has light impact marks, scrapes and oxidation. The left wood grip panel has an 1.25" chip missing from the toe. The rest of it and the other panel has light draglines and impact marks. The panels have darkened with age. The spine and sides have light oxidation, scrapes and scattered discoloration. The blade has no nicks or dings, but it appears to have been sharpened. It does NOT have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The original finish was in the white. There are no visible markings. The metal / leather scabbard is in Good - Very Good condition. It would have got a higher rating but the belt hoop is pretty worn. It is securely fastened to the body but the leather is brittle and starting to crack. The top of the belt loop is worn thin and should NOT be used, it will more than likely tear. The metal locket has impact marks, scrapes and finish loss along the leading edges. It has turned to a darker patina color. Both the metal locket and chape are securely attached to the leather body. The body has no rips or tears and the stitching is sewn tightly. However, the leather has dried out and there is some scattered light cracking. There are also some light draglines and the leading edges have scrapes. The rivets are securely fastened. Most of the original finish is intact. There are no visible manufacturer markings, but the outer face has an ornate tooled design. This machete knife and scabbard will be a great addition to your WWI Army Engineering collection, or a bolo machete knife collection in general.
