The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Franz Krautenbacher Franz served as a Corporal in a Mountain Troop Regiment and was a veteran of the campaigns in Poland, France, Greece, Africa, and the Balkans. He was awarded Iron Cross 2nd Class a Wound Badge. Franz passed on June 20, 1944 in Montenegro following six years of military service.
