The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Josef Ertl Josef was a Private in the highly respected ceremonial and later combat unit, 'GrossDeutschland' Regiment. He fell on September 16, 1944 in Lettland / Latvia at the age of 18. Please check back often as we will be listing more coins and currency.
