The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Josef Hartmann Josef was a Sergeant and Reconnaissance Pilot in the Luftwaffe. He was born on January 29, 1916 and fell on July 2, 1941 near Wilna.
