The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Josef Steininger Josef was a MG Gunner in the Infantry and was awarded an Iron Cross. He fell in northern France near Suippe/Aumencourt on June 12, 1940 at the age of 21. Please check back often as we will be listing more coins and currency.
