The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Max Grosspoitner Max was a volunteer Fireman and also member of the WW1 Veterans Organization. He served as a Conductor on Car 41 in the Railway Service and is shown wearing his service uniform and visor. Max passed on March 27, 1944 in Biaritz (also known as Biarritz) France during a bombing raid. He was 51. Please be sure to check back often as we will be listing more coins and currency.
