The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Josef Heinzlmaier Josef was a Private in the motorized Infantry and fell during the battle for Stalingrad on September 27, 1942 at the age of 26. He is pictured in a rather uncommon full view 'action' or 'live' photo rather than the studio photos that are most commonly found.
