Yello Bole Century Model ca 1940’s Billiard Pipe, Rare Find, Exc. Shape! Clean!

When these were made, they were just tools for the job and tossed when done. Often times, smokers never reamed their pipes. Once the cake was overbuilt, it was thrown away and a new one purchased. I list these Yello Boles, Medico pipes and other brands that are in excellent shape. I’ve collected them over the past 6 years. This is one of those pipes that’s a joy to find. You get what you pay for with these. Carefully and individually selected, fully restored and vetted, beautiful Americana - P I love the shape of this particular Billiard! It’s a medium size overall, standard for the time it was made. I first got one early on in my pipe obsession, restored and sold it and quickly regretted it. I couldn’t get past the lines. It’s subtle, but for me, I just love the slightly longer shank, a touch shorter stem and the angle of its tapering and so on. Since then I kept an eye out and found 2 over the past few years in very nice shape! I’m keeping one and selling the other, this guy! I’m a big fan of Yello Bole shapes and Kaywoodie of course. I don’t see the Century Model very often at all. I like the white ring insert on the stem and the almost beige brown stain used. This pipe is in great condition and easier to point out a blemish than all that’s nice with it. Aside from some roughness on the metal ring that’s quite small, it’s great in all other respects. It’s been completely restored of course and clean, inside and out. The vulcanite (not brylon!) stem was resurfaced to remove any oxidation or scratches and is free of any chatter or issues. It’s a deep black, highly polished and fits perfectly into the mortise. As with most Yello Bole pipes of the older eras, it has a removable stinger and a standard turned tenon. The briar is in great shape. The chamber has no burnout and was well cared for. No damage or signs of dropping to the pipe, the rim has no dings, charring or even darkening! A good sign it was carefully taken care of IMHO. This model was likely made in the mid 1940’s as best I have researched though it could be earlier even. The stamping is all there and not buffed off though Yello-Bole sometimes doesn’t do a deep press so the stamp is a little shallow but can be easily read with some light. During a quick search as I write this, I see no fills on the pipe anywhere. If there is, it’s well hidden! The stummel has a slightly flattened based allowing it to sit upright without need for a pipe rest. It’s been meticulously gone through as said, clean inside and out. The stem is great. The pipe was carefully buffed with fine white Diamond to remove old wax and any accumulations and helps bring the original stain back. I applied a couple coats of fresh carnauba wax for protection and shine and hand buffed with a soft cloth. It’s fully ready to smoke out of the box. A beautiful mid century American pipe! - Peter - You get what you pay for. My pipes are all carefully inspected and attended to. I will put hours into a $30 pipe or a $500 pipe with the same attention and care. Even new, old stock pipes have factory mistakes, oxidized stems or need new wax.
