Description: Vintage Zuni Polychrome Pot made by L. Sosee, native American potter, in 1988. This Zuni pot is in pristine condition and embodies all the qualities that distinguish the work of Zuni Pueblo potters in its shape, materials, colors and design. It is done in the difficult notched-edge shape. The interior of the pot is decorated with an egg-bearing frog, and the notched areas show tadpoles. A snake encircles the outer surface. The pot speaks of rebirth and renewal because of the frog giving birth to tadpoles and the snake's capability of sloughing off its old covering to expose a new one. These are common Zuni tribal themes. The walls of this pot are 3/8" thick because there is no other way to maintain shape before firing without use of a frame to hold the wet clay. Consequently, this pot weighs 2 1/2 pounds. The top of the bowl is 9-1/4" in diameter and the height 4-5/8".
